Carson-Newman College is a private university located in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains in Jefferson City, TN, USA. The university is affiliated with 18 Baptist liberal arts honor society. In 1880, the university was named Carson College for James Harvey Carson, who has donated $ 15,000 for the school.

For several years this school existed alongside Newman College, while separate facilities for special education of women named for William Cate Newman. And since 1889, the two higher education institutions were merged into one of the first coeducational institution in the South.
